Coding Certification Prep Course
Frequently Asked
Questions
Do I need to purchase any
other books for this course?
Yes, you need a current ICD-10, CPT© and HCPCS
manual. You will need a current year CPT©, Manual.
plus a current year ICD-10 manual. It is also
recommended to have a HCPCS manual as well. The
HCPCS module is short, at most four hours, and you
might want to borrow a manual if you are not
currently working in a medical office.
What books are included?
The course book to follow along with the online training.
Why is your online coding certification prep course
less than the AAPC or AHIMA versions?
First, we do all our own work, both developing the
content from our medical coding consulting business
and developing and maintaining the our web site. The
site was developed by medical coders and is updated
by medical coders.
Second, we focus on creating the very
best content rather than hiring a staff of programmers
who don't know anything about coding.
Third, our
students include both corporate clients, new students,
as well as mothers getting back into the workforce. The
economies of scale of the Internet allow us to make a
fair profit and offer very affordable training to
everyone at a reasonable price.
Why do you
have to limit the number of students taking the prep
course at one time?
We take pride in helping you get
certified and want to give each student the necessary
assistance they need. Plus, we want to make sure our
staff is available for questions. This can only be done
by limiting the number of students we have in the course
at one time.
If the course is closed please sign
up for the waiting list and we will contact you as soon
as a spot opens up.
Can
you study online anytime or are there fixed class times?
You can study anytime, 7 days a week, twenty-four hours
a day. The course is "study at your own pace" and we
recommend studying about 1 to 2 hours at a time. There
are no "classes to attend." Standard duration is 180
days for each module. In addition, six month Course
Extensions are available and reasonably priced at around
15 – 25% of the original price.
I'm a
complete beginner. Should I take your Coding
Certification Prep course?
Yes. All our online courses, unless specifically
designated as intermediate or difficult, are suitable
for novice or beginner students.
We cover basic,
intermediate and advanced coding in this course. Just
allow yourself a full six-months to study.
How
long does it take to complete the Coding Certification
Prep course?
Generally, the coding certification prep course can be
completed in eighty hours (80 hours). That would be
studying four hours per week for twenty-weeks. Standard
access is for twenty-six weeks (26 weeks). Obviously the
student can study as often as he/she likes, so this is
just a ballpark. We recommend not studying more than two
hours at a time. Retention is much better with shorter
sessions versus a few marathon sessions of 4 - 8 hours.
To pass a
Coding Certification Exam, such as the AAPC CPC© Exam,
We recommend working all the text material, all
the questions (well over 600) and at least ˝ of the
Operative Reports. In all there are over 125 Surgical Op
Reports. Spending approximately 120 hours and working at
least 75% of the Operative Reports is also recommended,
especially if the student has not worked as a surgical
coder.
Does
the Prep Course cover Medicare guidelines and Billing?
Historically, there have not been Medicare or billing
questions on the coding certification exams. We have
taught Medicare seminars but there are only limited
Medicare guidelines on the course.
Does the cost of the Coding
Certification Prep Course include the cost of taking the
actual Certification Exam?
NO. The price of the coding certification exam IS NOT
included with our Prep course. You will need to contact
the following associations:
